How to Score Above 90% in Board Exam
Many students and parents ask me that is NCERT enough for the class 12 physics board exam?
Or they should follow some other books?
Before I answer this question. Let me place my credentials. I am teaching physics for the last 10 years and have taught more than 3000 students. 100 of my students have scored more than 95 marks in the board exam.
Based on this experience I will answer this question.
Class 12 Physics Paper Pattern
Physics paper can be divided into three parts.
Conceptual and theory questions
Derivations
Numerical Problems
Conceptual problems carry the weight age of 16-30 Marks however theory part is 4 to 6 marks. Derivations part 10 to 15 marks. However, Numerical carry the weight age of 15-25 Marks. This is the pattern of physics exams.
Now let's talk about the difficulty level of the exam, we can divide the physics exam in three parts based on the difficulty level as follows:
- Easy
- Average difficulty
- Difficult
In my opinion 20-30% part of the paper is easy. This is mainly the theory part and some easy derivation.
The next 30-70% questions have an average difficulty level; it includes derivations, conceptual problems, and numerical problems. However 20 to 30% of questions are difficult, it includes conceptual problems and numerical problems.
After teaching for 10 years I found the CBSE NCERT physics book and NCERT Exemplar is the best book to prepare physics exams.
To prepare easy and average difficulty questions NCERT book is enough which means that using NCERT physics you prepare 70-80% questions of physics. Now to prepare a difficult part which somewhat 20 % you can use NCERT Exemplar.

Previous Years Questions Papers of last 7-8 years
Over the years I have seen that CBSE follows NCERT physics and NCERT exemplar while setting paper. CBSE gives hardly any importance to reference books. Therefore it is very important to follow NCERT books to score well in the exam.
I came across that many teachers do not follow NCERT books. Hence students do badly in the exam.
